Food for Thought (Literally!)

Pink Lemonade Diary (Pink Lemonade Memories) by Juliette Hill

While editing my YA novella this week, I realized how many scenes in my stories revolve around eating, or at least around the family table.  Through the years of visiting my dad’s family in Mississippi and my mom’s family in Georgia, I’ve experienced many of the blessings of Southern hospitality through sharing meals.

Whether sitting at a cozy breakfast table set for four or a fancy dining table set for twelve, the message was always the same:  food brings us together to share special moments.  We are nourished not only in body but in spirit by the meeting of generations, gathered together to pass on stories and traditions that endure.

As my great-uncle always said about dinner in my grandparents’ home, “Every meal’s a banquet.”  Bon appetit, and happy writing!

Lovely, Juliette! I, too, have happy memories of family dinners with Southern kin. Have you ever had greens with pot likker? Divine!
