Vacation Inspiration 2: Palm Beach

As you know from my last post, I have been on a wonderful vacation in Florida for the past week.  For the final few days of the trip, we traveled south from Daytona Beach to Palm Beach!  Palm Beach blends tropical bliss with decades of history.  For generations it has been the seasonal as well as permanent home to some of the rich, famous, and influential figures of our time.

Driving into Palm Beach, we began our weekend respite by having lunch at a lovely restaurant, recommended by a friend, that is celebrating its 91st year! That is so amazing and speaks to the essence of “One Vintage Heart.”  As my husband and I dined on the outdoor patio facing one of the main avenues leading from the highway to the ocean, I felt the ambiance of years gone by and wondered who might have dined at the same table during those 91 years!

Next, we moved on to our hotel, equally steeped in historic charm, located right in the heart of town, two blocks from the famed Worth Avenue and down the street from the Atlantic Ocean.  The hotel was built in 1921 as a condominium and was later turned into a hotel. Our bellman told us stories about the property during the “Roaring 20s.”  My mind immediately visualized the parties that may have taken place on the property and the interesting conversations the guests must have had.

Exploring Worth Avenue and the legendary shops, I was impressed with the beautiful architecture of the buildings and massive lantern lights that line the breezeways.  The shops reflect timeless style and elegance as well as the latest in fashion.

One shop in particular struck a cord with me.  It was a shop that carries the finest in stationery and associated products.  I bought a beautiful family tree chart designed on exquisite Italian paper.  Now reinvigorated by my purchase to continue and complete my family history research project this summer, I am once again reminded of the joy I feel when I explore the past through the lives of my ancestors.

I hope that your travels will also inspire you to journal about your trip, read a great book while traveling or create your own incredible literary work!

Safe journeys to you all!
